Ramakrishna Sharanam

January 1, 2010

Dear Friends and Devotees,

The Ramakrishna Vedanta Society’s year of events came to an end with two special observances—Sarada Devi’s Birthday and a Christmas Celebration. Sarada Devi’s Birthday was celebrated on Sunday, December 6th with a special 16-item puja and devotional singing; followed by a talk on “Self-Divinization,” sprinkling of Shanti Jal (“Peace Water”), arati, and a bountiful prasad luncheon. This was the farewell Sunday service of Jay Ghosh, our Vedanta Society President, who will be moving to Washington DC.

The Vedanta Society’s last service for 2009 was held on Sunday, December 13th. Many attended the Christ worship, followed by the reading from the Nativity, lecture, arati, and potluck. Vedanta children especially enjoyed the Christmas cookie offerings.

On Friday, December 11th, Professor Andrew Fort from the Department of Religion at Texas Christian University invited the Vedanta Society to tour the university campus and collaborate on academic initiatives for 2010. Professor Fort is a former guest lecturer at the Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, in Kolkata, India.

On Sunday, December 20th, the Board of Trustees for the Ramakrishna Vedanta Society convened its final meeting for 2009. With Swami Swahananda’s letter of approval, Jay Ghosh handed over the Society’s office of President to Ranjana Chopra, and Henry Hahn was appointed its new Secretary.

We now look forward to a full calendar of events for January! Please accept my heartfelt wishes for a spiritually blessed New Year!

With prayerful regards,
Pravrajika Brahmaprana
Resident Minister
