Dear Friends,

The Ramakrishna Vedanta Society of North Texas invited Swami Sarvadevananda from the Vedanta Society of Southern California to conduct a New Year’s retreat. On Saturday, January 1, the Vedanta Society celebrated its fourth annual Kalpataru Day at the DFW Hindu Temple in Irving, with a special worship and devotional singing followed by a talk by the swami on “Divine Grace.” Nearly a hundred people attended the celebration and were served prasad in hand.

From January 2-5, Swami Sarvadevananda gave an inspiring spiritual retreat with four talks on “Vivekananda’s Practical Vedanta.” The talks were very well attended. The swami also held a talk in Allen and Austin, Texas and throughout his visit was invited to many devotee homes.

On January 8, the Vedanta Center invited Revered Swami Bhaskarananda, accompanied by the devotees from the Houston Center, for a reception and spiritual talk.

On the humanitarian front, on the weekend of January 15 and 23, the Vedanta Center devotees coordinated and participated in four productive bone marrow drives to both raise awareness in the South Asian community and to save the life of a 24-year-old Indian girl diagnosed with leukemia. Out of the 8 million registered bone marrow donors, only 1% are Indians. At the Vedanta Center devotees assembled bone marrow registration kits, and at the drives more than 500 new donors registered to save the lives of those South Asian patients in need of transplants.

On January 27 and 28, Swami Ishtananda from the St. Petersburg Center held an inspiring spiritual retreat on the “Manifestation of Divine Love,” which was also very well attended. On January 29, the swami performed a special worship to commemorate Swami Vivekananda’s 150th birthday celebration and gave a talk on the “Life and Teachings of Swami Vivekananda,” which was followed by arati and a flower offering. The swami also launched the Ramakrishna Vedanta Society’s annual Mother’s Day Food Drive for the “Irving Cares” Food Pantry with a special Swami Vivekananda chant. All the attendees partook of lunch prasad.

With all best wishes,
